Google to launch free Internet Browser (Chrome) today

September 2, 2008

Google will launch a free web browser today called Chrome, that the company said would challenge Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, as well as the Firefox browser. Up to now, Google has supported Firefox, the open-source browser that has gained about a fifth of the market against the dominant Internet Explorer.

Chrome is based on an open-source rendering engine, WebKit, and an open-source version of Google’s Gears technology. It will also be able to run in a privacy mode, InCognito, so that no information about a person’s browsing is collected. Microsoft has added a privacy mode of browsing to IE8, called InPrivate.

You can download a PDF Comic book created by Google that tells a very comical story while at the same time unveils technical information about the new Google Chrome web browser.
